Voice over Internet protocol is, indeed, as advanced as you think. It comes with numerous features that ordinary phones can never match. Best of all, many of these features can be availed of for free!
Call Waiting
Contrary to popular opinion, not every American has the advantage of having call waiting available with their phone. It is, however, one of the many useful screening features available. With call waiting, users are made aware of incoming calls; they’re also given the option to put a current call on hold and answer the second call. As to what happens next, that’s entirely up to them. What matters is that you were given the choice and that choice is free for you to use with VoIP.
Call Forwarding
Let’s say you’ve given your phone number to an important person and his call is a matter of life and death. An emergency comes up, however, and you need to leave home. What to do? Well, if you’ve got VoIP then there’s nothing to worry about because you only have to activate the forwarding feature of your system.
With call forwarding, you have to specify the number which all calls will be forwarded to. Be aware, however, that if you forward it to a number that isn’t within the area, you’ll have to shoulder the additional charges for those calls. When no one picks up the phone for a specified number of rings, the call shall be immediately forwarded to the other number and then you’ll be able to get your all-important message!
Caller ID with Name
Many but not all VoIP providers offer this for free. Consider this as a more enhanced version of caller ID. This time around, not only does the caller’s number show up but the name he’s registered for his phone line as well. That could go a long way in helping you screen calls and determining which ones you wish to take. Of course, unlisted numbers still won’t yield any data.
Last Number Re-dial
With VoIP, there’s no need to memorize new numbers. As long as you’ve dialed them once, you only have to press the redial button and your VoIP phone will dial the number for you. You can even program it to dial the number for a specified number of times.
411 Directory
Last but not the least, VoIP phones allow you to have almost every phone number in the country within your fingertips, thanks to the 411 Directory.
